 Poetry III

Reflections...

In addition to poems on the pandemic, Newark Tech students submitted many poems on different topics. Please take a look at what our students decided to write about.

Sonnet Poem

Love is like an addiction

It shouldn't be fiction

Love can cause trouble

It’s like you are a trap in a bubble

Love cause so much pain

It can make you insane

Love may not seem so fun

Be with someone who would last in the run

Love might make you feel better

It can make writing a love letter

Love sound so sweet

It might help you feel complete

Love is not as bad

Be with someone who will make you glad

Newark

People in Newark has been through a lot

Every day people are getting shot

In Newark, there can be hope

Although people may say nope

People may shoot when they drive

Just be glad you're still alive

People in Newark fight

Be careful at night

Newark can be improved

Bad things will be removed

The Best Part Of Christmas

The best part of Christmas

Isn’t seeing the bright shining lights,

Nor seeing the snowfall down from the sky,

Nor the many presents under the tree.

The best part of Christmas

Isn’t when your dancing to Christmas songs,

Nor singing to Christmas songs,

Nor making an amazing gingerbread house.

The best part of Christmas

Is actually when you’re seeing the bright shining lights with your family,

Is when you’re seeing the snowfall down from the sky with your family,

Is when you open presents with your family.

The best part of Christmas

Is when your singing and dancing with your family,

Is when you have a family to go to when it Christmas,

Is when you can spend Christmas with those who you call family.

A Wonderful Time

What do you call that time

Where they can see the beautiful snow

Where people wouldn’t be like a sour lime

Where it was cold but giving you a warm feeling from its blow

Where unwrapping paper to find a sort of special surprise

You knew that you were good so here's your prize

Snow Falls

The snow falls

and my mom calls.

I look at the falling snow.

and see it glow.

I walked excitedly through the hall.

the smell of chocolate hitting my nose.

I drink my hot chocolate

I smile and laugh beside my family.

the best way of celebrating Christmas is best together.

Christmas Time

Me and my family gathering around the Christmas tree

But before that, we all brush our teeth.

Just like a regular day, we do our regular things

Wake up, say merry Christmas, take a shower, brush our teeth and eat breakfast.

We eat our usual Christmas morning breakfast, which mom always makes and brings

After that, we come together as a family, ready for the best part of the day

But before that, we pray.

My family celebrates the true meaning of Christmas

That is the day Jesus was born and came onto the earth

We always pray before opening our presents, it’s basically a tradition.

But after that, we hurry to open our presents as if it was our ambition.

Family and friends come over for dinner, and we enjoy our time laughing and chatting

I wish Christmas was more than one day, so we can continue having family and friends over.

But of course, we have to wait an entire year, just like it’s some crossover or hangover.

Me

Dark nights,

Cold air,

Sapphire blue joy written

everywhere. Drops of

water dripping Down

the shining blue sky.

Flying through the thick windy miss,

Like a diamond Owl.

Ecuadorian in my veins written everywhere.

Even though I haven’t been there.

Tall, Sharp, Wise Owl

Flying in-between trees

With my Caramel wings.

Tiptoeing through life shyly

In my own little world.

While hiding my deep

Scars and secrets.

Without having to show my true self

And fake a smile through my crying

While trying not to destroy myself

Making everyone think I’m just a shy owl

Having to have so many secrets to hide

And having to stay in the dark all alone.

Waiting on the shining light to shine on me,

Instead of having to stay in pure darkness

Needing to fake the things I do

Just for the attention

Cause in my world there’s nothing

But sadness, depression, and darkness

While others around me are happy and smile so bright

Thinking I’m the shy, sweet, and innocent little owl

When in reality I’m just a devil with secrets to be told

And a pass that can never be erased.

But in hope that someone finds my dark and sad soul

While also trying to help me bring the light that’s deep inside me

That I once had when I was a little owl

Until it disappeared because of him.

Nine months, nine months of happiness and joy.

Nine months of waiting for your child to play with baby toys.

Nine months of thinking, is it a boy or a girl?

The blessing of a new baby is amazing.

You think of a name and your heart starts racing.

November 4 was a special day for my family.

My mother’s option for names at first was Anna Lee.

Nine Months.

Nine months of waiting and waiting.

Nine months of building a nursery.

I was the third child and who knew many more were to come.

Time flies…

Right before your eyes..

I am now 15 and the princess of the house.

At least that’s what my dad says. I've always been his little mouse.

I have two parents who waited for nine months.

And now I’ve grown into an independent hard-working young lady.

I have two hard-working parents and they waited for nine months.

Not just for me but for all my siblings.

Nine months...

We Don't Know

People go through things everyday

Things we don't know

Someone is sad

Someone is mad

Someone is lonely

*

We don't know what people go through

We think everybody is happy

In reality, were blindsided by the smile they put up

The pain others go through is different then what we assume

We don't know

*

We see someone smiling & think they're happy

They cry at night and smile in the day

They lay in bed and wonder what's wrong with them

We see them and think everything is fine and they have everything together

We don't know

*

Be there for others

Love others

Be kind to others

Learn others

Because in the end...

We simply don't know what others go through

Age

Age is nothing but a number they say

But all I could think of is how I let my life pass away

Not a day goes by that I don’t remember my younger days

Not as much laughter nowadays

Tragedy, greed, and disappointment have overruled my life since then

Wishing something good would come out of my misery again and again

But nothing came

Nothing to soften the pain

I scream at the fact that all I see is grey

But age is nothing but a number they say
