Welcome Terriers

These past few months have been a struggle for all. We've been hit with a global pandemic and it's taking a toll on all of us. We as the Poetry Club believe it is important for everyone to be heard. We have included all of the poems received in this diversified issue. Through this website, we wanted to share our perspectives on how students are dealing with the pandemic. We hope upon reading this, you take comfort in knowing you are not alone in this, and we WILL get through it.

3, 2, 1, hurray it's 2020 and it’s time for a change.

We thought this was the year, but it felt like a game.

So many horrible things, it’ll  never be the same.

Let me tell you about 2020, it brought me so much fear.

January 30th we had a covid outbreak

Forced us to wear a mask it was a total outrage

We couldn’t leave our houses and we had to quarantine.

Our worlds shut down, the streets were empty and nobody was seen.

6 feet, social distance, we can’t hug or touch each other

We lost lives to this virus, man I even lost a brother

That was just the beginning

George Floyd. Breanna Taylor, and so many more

Lost their lives to police who should’ve been our protectors

Racism got so serious we had streets full of protestors.

No this didn’t stop the violence, it only got worse

When my friend lost her life for reaching in her purse.

Cruel, cruel world this doesn’t make sense

Cries and cries, people missing their loved one

What mother wants to have to bury her son.

Stand up and stand proud

All the black lives shout

“Black Lives Matter!”

Yes they do

You can’t say “all lives” if mines doesn’t matter to you

Smoke bombs run and hide, we had to pour milk in our eyes

This isn’t something new, this started with slavery

White lives always had the favory

They claim self-defense and we know that's a lie

If it was self-defense why’d you shoot him 8 times

When it comes to black lives, I’m going to speak my truth

Let me educate yall, who knows the story of Daniel Prude

His live was taken for having a mental episode

His kids lost their father that night.

If 2020 taught me anything, it’s to be proud of who I am

And don’t ever, ever, ever, fear a white man.

We are all the same, can’t you understand

So next time you think all lives matter, think of a black man.
